Headaches

Over 300 different kinds of headaches have been described in medical literature and yet so much about their cause remains a mystery.  Headaches are difficult to diagnose because there is a significant similarity between the symptoms of tension headaches, cluster headaches and migraines.  In addition, because headache pain can be so powerful people often assume that the cause of their headache lies, literally, in their head.  However, that is usually not the case.

I am a Neuromuscular Therapist with over 16 years of experience treating headache pain.  During that time I have discovered that approximately 90% of my patients' headaches are caused by a musculoskeletal imbalance in the upper body.  Imbalance and stressors rooted in upper body soft tissue, such as the neck, jaw, upper shoulders, and spine, can cause a wide range of headaches - unilateral (one side), bilateral (both sides), traveling and migraine.

I know that your physician may disagree with this diagnosis/treatment model, and it opposes the medical model, which states, that neck (musculoskeletal) related headaches are only unilateral.

The standard medical model is usually to treat patients with medication first and foremost.  And physicians often prescribe the exact same medication for a variety of different types of headaches.  While medications may work for some, they simply do not work for a significant number of people who continue to suffer for a lifetime.

My Approach: Neuromuscular Therapy

My approach is different - and successful.  Since most headaches are caused by a musculoskeletal imbalance I believe the need for medication (and its inherent side effects) may be avoided.  It seems logical that a skilled examination of the patient's upper body soft tissue should be conducted before medication is prescribed.  If an imbalance is recognized then, using neuromuscular therapy.  In short, neuromuscular therapy is a whole body hands-on therapy that alleviates and treats many problems in the young and adult.  My treatments will successfully relieve acute and chronic headaches and pain.  The relief can be long term and the treatment has no side effects.

Final Thoughts

One of the most difficult challenges in working with acute and chronic headache sufferers is demonstrating that Neuromuscular Therapy can help them live symptom- and pain-free.  Therefore I am inviting new patients to receive a complimentary evaluation.  I will also be happy to treat your existing headache with neuromuscular therapy at the same time, and if it doesn't relive your symptoms or pain there will be no charge.  That's right - your visit will be free.  For 16 years and with over 2,000 successfully treated headache and migraine patients I am confident that I can relieve and decrease your headache with proper neuromuscular therapy within minutes.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about your condition or my practice.  Our office is conveniently located in the Professional Building at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview.  Appointment times are flexible to accommodate work and school schedules.  I look forward to meeting you.

Stay healthy and happy
